HIgher Studies in Sweden (English)
This is some information for the students who want to apply for studying in Sweden for high education levels.
There is a specific and general website www.studyinsweden.se Most of the important rules are in this site. How ever we select a brief deception.
Master's programs taught in English. They are normally open for both Swedish and foreign students with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent academic qualifications. The master's programs are an opportunity for students with excellent academic performance to obtain a competitive Master's degree of the highest international standard. The duration of the programs is normally one and a half years; two terms of course work and one term of final degree project/master's thesis. Courses generally start in late August and finish at the beginning of June. The programs are free of charge. The number of students accepted to each program is limited.
Deadlines for master's programmes with start in August 2005: • International students (non EU/EEA citizens) and students applying for scholarships: around 15 January 2005 • Citizens of EU/EEA countries (including Sweden): around 15 April 2005 Deadlines for Master's programme with start in January International students (non EU/EEA citizens ): around 15 August 2005 • Citizens of EU/EEA countries (including Sweden): around 15 October 2005 The on-line application for the August entry is now open. The on-line application for the January entry 2006 will open in mid April 2005. No applications will be accepted for consideration before these dates. The following documents are needed for all applications: • Two certified copies of transcripts of records and copies of your undergraduate (and post graduate, if any) degree certificates and diplomas. If these are in a language other than English, certified copies of the original documents and a translation will be required along with information on the grading scale. • proof of English proficiency. Please make your reservation for TOEFL or IELTS tests as soon as possible. • Curriculum Vitae including academic studies and professional experience. • Two letters of recommendation (in English). • Two recent passport-size photos of yourself. • Autobiographical statement in English (attached separately). Admission requirements
Previous studies Requirements for applicants to a master's program leading to a Master of Science with a major in: A Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education in science, engineering or other discipline related to the major subject of the relevant program. The main subject of the Bachelor's degree must have been studied in depth for at least 1.5 years. ...or previous engineering studies (in Sweden or abroad) in a discipline relevant to the major subject of the Master's program, equivalent to at least three years of full-time studies at a Swedish university of technology, towards the Swedish degree 'Civilingenjör'. Requirements for applicants to a master's program leading to a Degree of Master of: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an institute of higher education in science, engineering or other discipline relevant to the program. Students must have a completed degree by the time of application in order to be considered for admission.
Language requirements A good knowledge of written and spoken English is required. Applicants must provide proof of their proficiency in English. KTH accepts a TOEFL test score of a minimum of 550 (213 in the computer-based test) or an IELTS score of at least 5.5 (both general and academic accepted). More information on www.toefl.org and www.ielts.org. The TOEFL code for KTH is 7966. Financial aspects The master's programmes are free of charge. However, all students must be able to cover personal living expenses, cost of literature, insurance, student union fee (approx 400 SEK/year), etc. in Sweden. The estimated cost of living for a student is 7200 SEK/month, which corresponds to approximately 940 USD/800 Euro (April 2004).
